A new crop that’s just arrived in the United States is likely to have a “tough time” on the federal government’s books, as the new crop is legal, according to an economist at one of the country’s largest food processors.
Lawrence Fish Market, the nation’s largest wholesale market for legal weed, told CNNMoney that the crop will be “tougher on the government than the old one.”
Fish Market, which is also a leader in food, agriculture and consumer products, told The Wall Street Journal that the new harvest is expected to be more expensive than the existing crop.
Fish has already seen a big boost in sales.
The company expects to sell about 300,000 kilograms of weed in its first quarter, up from the current average of about 30,000 kg, according the Journal.
“The harvest of this crop will probably be a bit higher than what we had previously anticipated,” the company said.
“This is a good opportunity for the market.”
The company, which has its headquarters in Lawrence, Kansas, is expected take in about $40 million in sales this year.
This is the second crop the company has made available to farmers.
In February, the company made available a new weed that was legal in Colorado, Oregon and Washington, The Wall St. Journal reported.
